Nanny in Vienna

Hi, I'm looking for a live-in Nanny position in the Washington D.C. area or in the San Diego, CA area. I've worked as a nanny for over 2 years now. I was an Au Pair through "Au Pair in America" and I'm originally from Germany. I lived with two different families so far, both from Vienna, VA. I my first family I took care of three children ages 4,6, and 7. I lived with them for about a year, before i moved to my second family with two girls ages 8 and 11. I also babysit for a family whose kids are 2,5,and 7 years old. My responsibilities were taking them to school or to the bus stop, picking them up and driving them to their afternoon activities. But of course I also did fun things with them like going to the pool in the summer, going to the zoo, going outside in the woods, or to the creek where we let little boats float down the stream, playing soccer, softball, basketball, riding bikes and scooters, play hide and seek, or catch. On rainy days we were doing arts and crafts, painting, reading, playing board games, making cookies etc. Other responsibilities were doing the kids laundry, cleaning up after the kids, helping the kids straighten up their rooms, helping the kids do their homework, making school lunches and occasionally making dinner. I am a very open-minded, out-going, friendly, fun-loving person, who is very active and loves sports. I 'm into Karate since I 'm 8 years old, back home I was a coach for 3 different groups of children (ages 5-15). I am a black belt myself, and I was actually kind of successful in competitions. Other hobbies are playing the piano, playing the guitar and singing, but also surfing (trying to learn it), traveling, I 'm also a big runner. I 'm training for a half- marathon right now. After being an Au Pair I changed my visa and started studying at NOVA. My major is business administration and I love it. I will be going back to school after the summer, but I have always made my job my first priority and took classes when the kids were in school or at night. Let me know if you have any questions or if you even want to meet up and talk in person! I'm really looking forward to hear back from you. Best, Josie

Can a Playground Be Too Safe?

Seesaws, tall slides and monkey bars are disappearing from playgrounds. They are being replaced by 'Safety-first' playgrounds. At first thought this seems like a natural and correct evolution, and certainly not an issue of debate, and I imagine that parents who have had to deal with concussio...

Is it Spring Yet?

The calendar says it is so; the robins are here; and the tulips are trying to push up through the residual piles of snow. But the reality is that within the last week we have had snow, ice and below freezing temperatures. Enough already. Those of us who live in the northern United Staes or ...
