Hello Parents, My name is Josh and am looking for work either as a caregiver, before & after school care, sitter or nanny. I have 15 years’ experience working with children and youth with mostly special needs. I am a fun loving laid back easy going very patient person who enjoys making a difference in a child’s or youths life. With my experience with children and youth I have had to be a lot like a parent which means cooking, cleaning, laundry, driving to outings, help with homework and having fun of course. It may sound like I am over qualified with my experience because of working with special needs children and youth but it means that I can handle pretty much any situation that comes up. My experience has included working in group homes, residential homes, child and youth worker, respite, educational assistant etc. In 2016 my last job I had was working with a 9 year old with complex needs doing respite in my home and out in the community. Also his aide in summer camp which was a great experience for both. During my 15 years of working with children and youth with specials needs I have gained valuable experience that have allowed me to become the person I am today. I am described as a laid back, caring, kind, very patient, easy going, trustworthy and nurturing person that wears his heart on his sleeve. Don’t get stuck on the label of the special needs experience as some will because the kids are normal with added assistance required. That being said I have the experience behind me to work with children and youth in any setting required and bring something a little different to the table than most. When I work with any child or youth I like to engage them in any activity they are doing and also get to know them, there interests, likes, dislikes and build a relationship bond so that we have the best positive experience possible. If that means playing cars, Lego, playing outside, video games or teaching how to bake a cake then so be it. Now as for other things needed around a house I can cook, clean, do laundry, bake, sew and look after animals. I can also drive and can tend to driving kids to activities if needed. In my 15 years of experience I have coached baseball, volunteered as a reading buddy, worked as a EA full time and casual, have had a police check every year, always have my first aid and this year hope to coach baseball again. Some of my interests include bike riding, sports, hiking, road hockey, video games, movies, baking, model train and playing board games.
