My name is Katelyn and I have been working professionally as a nanny, center-based primary caregiver, preschool teacher, and most recently, a public school para-educator for the past ten years. Two of my ten years were working with children with special needs and I would be a great asset to any family who could benefit from this knowledge and experience, special needs or otherwise. I hold a bachelor of science degree in English Writing as well as many certificates on professional development topics (such as shaken baby syndrome, mandated reporter, health and safety, and Handwriting Without Tears). I am CPR and First Aid certified, and I have had the opportunity to work very closely with OT/PT, speech, special ed, behavioral, and family therapists. My family is new to the Aberdeen/Hoquiam area and I am looking to care for up to five children, aged 6 weeks to 6 years, along with my own pre-school aged daughter- kind of like a nanny-share. I believe in adult-directed play and an early education approach to daily activities, mostly following the learn-through-play approach. I have a flexible daily schedule to follow along with weekly themes and lesson plans that even the smallest child can participate in. These lesson plans include discussion topics (circle time), crafts (to strengthen fine motor, spacial reasoning, and direction following abilities), dramatic play, gross motor time, music, reading, and pre-writing/writing. With a small group and a nurturing and caring home-like environment, children can grow, learn, and blossom with much more individual attention and care. I would love to begin caring for your child the second or third week of September. Hours could be flexible, but a 7:30-5:30 day, 5 days a week, is preferred. Tuition will be billed by the month.
