I'm a 38 year old single fit energetic female with a BA in psychology from NYU, an extensive nutritional background (love to grocery shop and cook) and I've babysat for my best friend's 6 year old daughter as needed over the last few years. I consider myself reliable, kind, compassionate, keenly astute, insightful, inquisitive, detail-oriented, productive, responsible and candid with a strong spiritual base. I am looking for a position for one or two kids, ages 4 and up. I don't subscribe to a one size fits all mentality when it comes to education, discipline or emotional temperament. I prefer to tailor it to best suit the individual child's age, needs and personality but I will share my general views. Emotional development: I offer nurturing, loving and attentive child care. I would encourage the child to learn to trust their intuition, express their true nature and be brave enough to follow its guidance. I'd support her in standing proud in her uniqueness. If everyone were the same, this world would be a pretty boring place. I also feel strongly that setting kids up to learn emotional resilience is a huge gift - to learn that mistakes & emotional hurts are a normal part of life and to learn how to deal with the consequences, preferably without it breaking them down or stopping them in their tracks. I believe we do a disservice to kids by coddling them particularly if we want them to have the chance to push themselves and really excel. Perspective is everything along with the ability to see the bigger picture. Education: I believe in allotting for unstructured fun time in which to thrive so they can utilize their creativity, get absorbed in the present, get outdoors for exercise and commune with nature. I encourage learning what is not known, sharing, flexible yet critical thinking rather than taking things at face value and being pro-active rather than reactive. I believe you can learn from everything that takes place in your life so it's not limited to the classroom. I also would encourage tuning within for answers to their deeper questions to empower them to grow in acceptance and true understanding of themselves and by extension, of others. Discipline: I don't view it as punishment, conflict, inflicting fear or control but as a means of imparting knowledge and guidance in a consistent manner, to teach what to do and what not to do.
