JOB POSTING In-Home Aid for Special Needs Child This is a hands-on position working with a 15 year old boy with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome who is verbal and active! This is a very rewarding job because you will get to experience the joys of helping a child overcome his challenges. This position entails working one-on-one with the child to provide assistance and to care for him. This is not a babysitting job and all care is provided both in my home and in the community. Our son requires close supervision, instruction, structure, and interaction at all times. This is perfect for those studying in education, special education, therapeutic recreation, psychology, communication, etc. Duties Include: Play, play, play Actively engage and interact with my son Take him on outings in the community Assist with personal care and feeding (making meals) Help to teach life skills Provide transportation to therapies, children's camp, Special Olympics sports, etc. Work closely with family members to help child meet goals. Follow a behavior plan closely and learn a Neurobehavioral approach to working with a special needs child. Must be: At least 18 years old In good physical shape to be active with our son Be able to provide transportation, have their own car and a good driving record Must pass a background check 100% Non-smoker Comfortable with 2 large friendly dogs Qualifications: Must be dependable, responsible, and independent Must be able to be self-directed and have a plan ready for daily schedule Must be able to set clear boundaries with my son and creatively work through issues he presents Must be patient, calm, firm, fun, and energetic Experience with special needs children a must. Knowledge of ABA therapy is a plus. Must be professional, able to adapt to change, and work well with others Must enjoy outdoors (he loves fishing and being outside in general) Must be willing to read and learn about about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and become an active part of our son’s behavior plan.
