I am thinking of opening a home-based childcare (numbers starting around 4-6), centered around the RIE philosophy (respect & trust, treating the WHOLE child), with Reggio Emilia surroundings/environments/playspaces (organic structure, adhering to a nature-positive play-based learning) & buddhist /ayurvedic principles & traditions (shrine upkeep & offerings - in support of fine motor skills & routine, lessons in cultivating loving kindness & compassion, meditation & yoga practice for gross motor development & calming exercises). I have been in childcare for the past 4 years, was a stay at home dad with my two sons, until we could afford to put them in their mother's school (she is a teacher as well). I am a practicing buddhist in the Vajrayana tradition for over 10 years, and follow all the philosophies and practices of RIE/Reggio Emilia on a daily basis with the children under my care (at a local preschool). I would keep numbers low at first until I build a positive, organic foundation, and possibly widen the class (10 max.) at a later date. I would like to keep the prices low (between $300-600/mo), as I know I would appreciate finding quality daycare at a reasonable price range. Having experience paying for childcare on the higher end of the spectrum, and not coming from a better paid background, I know how hard it can be at times, and I do NOT believe the child should be the one to suffer when it comes to care VS money.
