Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Jessica. I am seeking part time or occasional childcare work. I have worked with all ages 0-12years old, in varying settings. I have my certification in Early Childhood Educator Assistant. A clean criminal record check, references, first aid certification, and a true joy of caring for children. I believe in treating children with respect, listening to them, laughing with them, helping them learn how to do the things they are interested in, and suggesting other activities to try. I am very connected to nature and enjoy taking children on walks, to playgrounds etc. Identifying plants and gardening has been a joy to the children I’ve taught as well as my own. I believe in positive teaching and guiding, and helping children identify and process their big emotions and guide them to calm, through comfort, understanding and diversion of attention onward to better things. I believe in explaining the reasoning why behind whatever it is I’m asking them to do, because as adults, we all appreciate that, and kids do too! I will also answer their many “why?” questions about things in life without impatience and what I don’t know we can look up! I encourage their autonomy, letting them try to zip a jacket before I help them, offering guided choices instead of constant dictating of their schedule ( for example: we want them to have a healthy snack so I would offer a choice, kiwi, or blueberries? We want them doing an activity instead of more tv time so instead of turning off tv saying tv time done and that’s it, I say cheerily, it’s time for an activity now ! Would you rather play hide and go seek, play in the yard or play a board game?) I understand the level of constant supervision young children need, and keep an eagle eye on them at all times. I am available to come meet with parents and kids for an hour or so at no charge prior to beginning working, so the children are not being left with someone, for the first time, that they’ve never met. I believe this lessens stress on the children (and the parents!) and is worthwhile in order for the kids to be more comfortable.
