Hello there! My name is Christian Pflager, and I'm offering my services as a nanny in Bellingham. I'm a student with professional childcare experience. I've worked as a preschool teacher, both through my mother's Montessori preschool and at Evergreen Academy in Bothell, Washington. I've volunteered domestically and abroad - locally, Studio East day camps in Kirkland, day camps at the Burke Museum in Seattle; internationally, through Volunteers for Peace on a month-long trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where we taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and basic arithmetic to kids 2-12. I'm First Aid/CPR/AED/BBP certified and have experience in outdoor emergency situations owing to my tenure in the Boy Scouts. I'm moving to Bellingham this summer or fall to put myself through school for English and History, two of my favorite topics. I've found education and care-taking to be a rewarding pursuit, in general. I have a firm belief that learning should be fun, and teaching should be, too. Kids will retain a lot more information if they're having a good time doing it - as someone who has been learning all their life, I know that's how I learn best. About me: I'm a young guy from Kirkland, where I've lived all my life. I'm a fourth sibling in a big family and my mum founded a Montessori preschool, which I volunteered at as I was growing up. I'm very interested in writing, and I'm going to minor in museum sciences to hopefully get a degree to curate. I'm an avid reader, or a big nerd - space, dinosaurs, history, etc. I like being out and about in nature, meeting new people, playing saxophone, or simply spending time with my friends, who for the most part happen to be in Bellingham (affordable, beautiful, school-adjacent). I can provide references upon request, personal and professional. I promise you I'm great with kids - growing up in a big family forces you to learn conflict resolution skills early on. For the most part, I enjoy spending time with people with different points of view, and kids certainly have that. I'm also a giant kid myself - I love playing with Lego or make-believe or just reading stories with the kids. I'm offering my services both part and full-time, depending on the needs of the client. I can help with household chores, I'm a pretty good cook, and I have a valid Driver's License and Food Handler's Permit. Rates are negotiable: I'll be available fully after August 5th, as I'm working three weeks at the Burke Museum this summer as a day camp counselor.
