Hi! My name is Cassy. I am a 21 year old college student studying Theatre at Bradley University. I have been working with kids since I was basically a kid. I started taking care of new borns and toddlers as a volunteer in my church in grade school, then a mentor to grade schoolers when I was a middle schooler. I then became a camp counselor for middle schoolers as time went on and have spent my first summer away from them in 7 years due to an internship I have. I firmly believe in safety above all (I spent 2 years as a lifeguard). Fun is important, but not more important the the child's well being. Fun will always be had with me, I am sure to get to know the kiddos and find what interests them to keep them entertained. Respect is important though as well. Every situation is a learning opportunity that can aid the child in developing better social skills and understanding; therefore I am not afraid of discipline. Whether is is loss of opportunities or time outs, the kids will be held responsible for their actions according to their age. After the consequence, I always ask them why this happened and what they can learn from it so they begin to become aware of how they affect their surroundings. We will always walk away with a hug and an apology, but I certainly do not expect discipline to be necessary but it is wise to have a plan. I encourage creativity, outdoors, and adventure. Kids are young and they need to have an environment that allows them to grow and explore. That is a little bit about my mentality when it comes to the little ones. I enjoy their presence and they inspire me. They remind to keep my creative mind young. The world is much more beautiful that way.
