My name is Naomi Cousins. I am originally from rural PEI, but moved to St. John's in 2013 to pursue post secondary eduction. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I enrolled in MUN's Masters of Arts in Linguistics. I am currently in my second semester of this masters degree, focusing on child language acquisition. I have always had a passion for working with people, regardless of their age or stage. During junior high and high school, I babysat for a few families in my community. During high school, I was also a Peer Helper assisting fellow students in the classroom setting. In 2012, I spent six months living at L'Arche Cape Breton, a community for adults with developmental disabilities. During my time there, I was a live-in assistant who shared life with these adults and other volunteer assistants. During the summer of 2016, I was an Elementary School Tutor with the PEI Literacy Alliance. This job required that I provide one-on-one tutoring for children ages 6-12 years. The focus was on numeracy and literacy. I ensured that children were having fun and also learning. This is just a brief review of some of the experiences I have working with children and adults, both with and without special needs. I am a very caring, passionate, respectful, dependable, and professional individual. I enjoy caring for children, playing with them, and helping them reach milestones.
