Hi, My name is Luke Changet. I have worked in education for 5 years as an aide, a preschool teacher, a tutor, and a babysitter. I am a graduate of Ohio State with a degree in English Education. While my work experience is mostly with younger children (ages 2-4), I have tutored several older children, up to 6th grade. As a tutor, I take an approach of guidance rather than teaching. Children are smart. And they can all figure things out, they just need to be asked the right questions. That is my role. Largely, I refuse to answer questions, and prefer instead to ask questions that lead to the answer, so the child can gain a fuller understanding of the subject matter. It both teaches them more about the subject, as well as teaches them critical thinking skills which are invaluable in all subjects. As a sitter, I don't have quite as much experience. I've babysat for 4 boys, all from my preschool class, all aged 2-3. I would typically do dinner/play/bedtime either after school or on the weekend for a date night. I also work to maintain interaction with the kids and make the night fun. It's good because it makes them miss mommy/daddy less and helps the time go by faster, but also because one of my biggest pet peeves in childcare is "caretakers" who just sit on their phones the whole time.
