I'm a 24-year-old college student & aspiring lower-level elementary school teacher. With my degree, I'll be able to teach up to the 8th grade but I've got my heart set on elementary students—particularly pre-k to 3rd grade. I've taught kids in 1st grade & I could immediately tell that was what I'm meant to do. Prior to switching majors, I was in Nursing & going to become a psychiatric nurse. In addition to the healthcare & childcare qualifications that I've acquired through an education, I have experience working for a family as a nanny/babysitter; the kids were 10, 5, & newborn. Some of my responsibilities included cooking, light chores, helping with homework, bathing, help with school functions/activities, & "kid stuff" like a trip to the park or supervising play outside. I am good at it & working with children makes me happy. It's not a challenge or like a chore for me to be around babies or children. I enjoy the process & bonds formed between myself & the kids whether I'm caring or teaching. I love this job because I am awesome at it, & I'm not ashamed to say that! Due to the extremes of the career choices I made, my patience is out of this world & loyalty unmatched. What makes me good at being a nanny or a babysitting is unknowingly having 15 of experience doing the same work for my parents! I am the oldest of three & that's why I don't mind doing activities, cooking, cleaning, or early mornings/late nights. The personal, professional, & educational skills & experience serve me well! I am admittedly strict, but not unnecessarily aggressive or confrontational. It's only because I'm working & not there to play or chill. Your kid(s) my responsibility & I take that seriously. The strictness is respect & care. I don't wait until something happens before I start caring about it. Don't worry though, I do keep a healthy balance between work & play!
