I am a senior at Manhattan College, pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in communications. For the past 10 years, I have served as a babysitter to numerous families—for which I am happy to provide references—including children from infancy through age 12. Starting at age 13, I completed a babysitting skills course that focused on safety and care. Instruction included basic training in the handling of emergencies, simple first aid, and feeding, diapering, bedtime, etc. Since then I have babysat for numerous families in my home town. My previous experience also includes an ongoing summer camp counselor position and lifeguard for four consecutive summers, providing support and guidance to elementary-aged children. I soon began babysitting for a camper of mine and her two brothers on a full-time level throughout high school. Prior to attending Manhattan College I had taken a gap year and volunteered at an orphanage in Cartagena, Colombia. I assisting in providing a nurturing environment by caring for and supporting the daily influx of infants (newborns -18M) living in extreme poverty. As the oldest of 3 children, I have also played a major role in the upbringing of my two younger brothers. Further, I worked as a full-time nanny for three boys ages 5-12, 5 days a week for the duration of 6 months. During this time I was responsible for all childcare and light housekeeping, which this included: getting ready for school, all meals, homework help, entertainment, playdates, bedtime, laundry, grocery shopping, etc. Overall, I strive to provide a warm, fun and nurturing environment in all babysitting assignments. My goal is for parents to experience worry-free time away from home knowing that their children are in competent hands. I love children, and my compassionate nature and friendly personality make me get along with them in no time. I can keep children happy, and this quality makes me happy too. In fact, I enjoy developing kids emotionally, socially and physically, which is the main reason why I enjoy babysitting.
