I'm an
Agency / Company
Hello my name is Micaila. I'm a reliable and experienced individual, currently pursing my Masters degree at Memorial University. I have extensive work experience in taking care of children. Some examples are: Au Pair for a family of 4 in Australia, a camp counsellor, and a local babysitter since I was 13. As an Au Pair, I cared for two lovely girls aged 2 and 4. It was my duty to wake them up, dress them, prepare their breakfasts and lunches for the day, and walk the oldest of the two to kindergarten. I would then watch the 2 year old all day from 6am-6pm. Some of the activities we enjoyed were nature walks, scavenger hunts, beach/lake days, museums, library days, and lots of arts and crafts! We also went to the theme and water parks once a week. Once it was time to pick up the eldest from kindergarten, I would drive and pick her up and sometimes take her to swimming lessons. After, I would prepare my host family a nutritious meal. Once we finished eating, I would clean the kitchen/dishes, and do one last tidy of the home before heading to bed. I did this 4 times a week as a live-in Au Pair. I loved this job/role so much and still think about heading back until this day! I am still very close with my host family and we keep in contact on a constant basis. As a past summer camp counsellor for the Halifax recreation program, I have organized many fun activities and ensured great participation from the children I worked with. I lead multiple camp lessons and plans for children ranging from 4-12 years old and learned to alter each lesson to each age group. Some activities that were enjoyed by my previous experiences were arts & crafts and games that involved physical activity and reading. During my time at Memorial, I was part of Environmental Sustainability committees and other organizations involving Marine Sciences, Biology, and Chemistry. I have also volunteered at every World's Oceans day and taught children about marine life using touch tanks with starfish, sea cucumbers, and other small marine organisms. In addition, I am also an active volunteer with the Nova Scotia Environmental Network as a communications volunteer and journalist. My mother was a nanny when she was in university and is now an in-home daycare provider in our community, thus I am very knowledgeable on child care, good nutritional choices, and adjusted to having children in my home from ages 2-13. I have my standard First Aid course, CPR, worked summer camps with children with special needs, and have worked as a live-in Au Pair in a different country. I have fostered animals for two years while I was in university with the SPCA and other rescue organizations, so I am able to provide care for your pets if needed! I enjoy working with children and find it to be an extremely rewarding experience I feel that I have all the necessary qualities that make a great caretaker. *I have my own car and I am fully vaccinated
