Sitter in Santa Rosa, California
I'm an
Individual
In 2011, I retired from the fire department due to an injury. Although it was earlier than I hoped, I am fully recovered. After retiring, I spent time traveling. After I returned, I assisted a friend in all aspects of opening a new retail store. After retirement, I also was a nanny for a family that had 3 children. Some of the events I experienced while with the children, will forever remain some of the happiest times I’ve had the honor of experiencing. I have my own 3 wonderful, adult children who I raised to be smart, considerate, and independent. It pleases me to say that they became exactly that, successful, thoughtful, and responsible adults. In addition to caring for children, mine, and others, I have always been the primary caretaker of my own homes, cleaning and doing repairs. A live-in position is ideal as it will afford me the opportunity to have a hands-on approach on all levels so I may continue the important things in life… giving love and care to others. I have a strong attention to detail and adore caring for children. Watching a child grow and expand their mind, body and soul is amazing. But for some, my involved personality isn’t a fit. I am a “on the floor” kind of person. I do not believe in care where you sit on the couch and watch t.v. while a child plays nearby. I need to be where a child is at any age, and that to me is being engaged. Whether we’re the floor, rocking in the chair when they can’t sleep, dancing, playing educational games, encouraging them to eat green beans or simply giving loving hugs, this is how I feel and how I am, at all times.
While employed with my previous family I became “auntie”. In Hawaii, there exists a strong sense of ohana (family) which extends beyond traditional bloodlines, or extended family. The word is used to communicate endearment and respect, along with an implied familial bond. To me that is what I would want in a provider tasked with the care of my child. Of course, this should not imply that I am not respectful of boundaries in provider/parent roles. Family structure is very serious to me so I refer to the familial bond as necessary to achieve a close connection with parents, child, and caregiver.
I have an impeccable background, CPR and first aid trained, I have spent my entire adult life giving to others and an opportunity to continue doing so would be my ideal job. As the environment has always been important to me, hazardous materials and environmental crimes became my focus while working for the fire department and I continue to keep that as a focus in my personal life now that I am retired.
