New and Old Learning Preschool now enrolling ages 18 months to 6 years for July 6th start date! ~Come Explore With Us!~ Younger preschool-18mos-36mos-Tuesday & Thursday-9am-12:30pm-$12 per day Pre-K preschool-3yrs-6yrs-Monday/Wednesday/Friday-9am-12:30pm-$10 per day *all classroom materials provided *no chill/no heat healthy sack lunch required daily I am offering a developmentally supportive learning environment for young preschoolers and pre-K children with a constructivist model and an emphasis on exploring and valuing our natural world.I put great value in the overall development of children and in a child’s ability to freely and successfully learn, develop and create. Preschool students will have the opportunity to explore their environment, express themselves, develop and refine skills with a variety of materials and learn curricular information such as math and reading while at play. *(A Note on Constructivist Curriculum: In a constructivist curriculum model children learn through free exploration and play. I do not offer worksheets or an abundance of repetition and recitation. I do however offer experiences that allow children to develop all the skills and knowledge needed in kindergarten and beyond. Early literacy in the preschool classroom, for instance, will include group storytime and discussion, name cards and alphabet charts available for experimental writing and the use of alphabet materials in the classroom such as alphabet foam shapes for art activities and magnetic or floating letters for sensory activities. I will be at all times extending the learning children are doing in the classroom.) ~Early Childhood Professional Summary~ Education: *AAS in Early Childhood Education-Chemeketa Community College-2010 *BS in Social Science with emphasis on Children & Family Studies-Portland State University-2013 Classroom Volunteer: *Family Building Blocks 10/12-2/... *MWVCAA Head Start 2/13-6/13 Employment: *OCDC Migrant/Seasonal Head Start-Preschool Teacher II-6/13-9/1... *MWVCAA Head Start-Preschool Teacher II-9/13-5/15 Certifications/ Trainings: *Oregon Food Handler's Card *Adult/Infant First Aid/CPR Certified *Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Certified *Oregon Background Registration Number Available Upon Request *Step 10 on Oregon Registry program *Over 20 hours of online trainings certifications from the Child Care Education Institute *Over 100 hours of pre-service employment and volunteer training ~New and Old Learning Preschool Basic Discipline Guidelines~ Use Positive Directions: tell children what they CAN do (“Walk indoors” “Use your words”) Give Appropriate Choices: be sure each option is acceptable (“You can choose to join the group and dance or you can choose to sit quietly alone nearby”) Moderated and Intentional Voice Tone: adult voice level/tone sets and establishes environmental mood (adults should move closer and speak lower as opposed to speaking louder from a distance) Redirect Negative Behaviors: offer acceptable alternative that meets child’s needs (“If you would like to splash in the water, we can move the tubs outdoors so no one slips on the floor”) Forsee and Forestall: create a physical and community environment that decreases the opportunity for serious issues and promotes individual and group problem solving (offer many opportunities for exploring, modeling and practicing positive communication, problem solving and conflict resolution) Set Clear Limits and Expectations: keep them few, consistent and clearly understood (Classroom Basic Rules: No one may cause harm to materials, others or themselves) Adults will not use any form of disrespectful disciplinary action: use of disrespectful and/or inappropriate language, denial of food and/or other self-care needs and any form of physical disciplinary actions are unacceptable in any learning environment (Positive behavioral redirection techniques will be utilized at all times by adults while engaging with children in the learning environment) Thank you for your interest!
