First and foremost I firmly believe a child needs to feel secure in their environment. In order for this to happen you must be confident in your choice of provider and the provider and child should form a bond. A child imitates verbally and visually what they see and hear. Although we might think they aren't listening, their subconscious is attentive to what's going on around them. A nurturing, loving environment with clear expectations gives them the foundation from which they learn upon and benefit. A Child's mind is like a sponge, give them the right information at the right time and they soak it up. At Granny's Home Daycare I present information in as many ways as possible. This is where fun and learning go hand in hand. Every toy in the Daycare is used as an educational toy in some way or another. Even the simple act of a child pouring a cup of tea for me or a friend is a learning experience with the emphasis on fun.... Everyday during play we work on manners, respect, sharing, co-operation and independence. During Circle time we practice Listening Skills and Comprehension through learning to take turns, recite poems, sing songs, hear stories, learn colors, shapes, alphabet, numbers, new words and ideas. The T.V. is used as a learning tool in addition to the above curriculum and is always supervised. Fine and Gross Motor skills as well as Hand Eye Co-ordination are important areas of development in children. My purpose is to create an environment in which children feel welcomed, safe, respected and free to create, imagine and discover. I believe we as providers can help children through their development by creating an environment that inspires them to learn at a pace which is comfortable, yet challenging. I believe children need a consistent show of affection, care, love and respect in an environment that suits their needs, a place where they can find comforting stimuli for all their senses to learn about the world and their interactions with others.....
