I'm an
Individual
Having almost completed my second year teaching in a grade 5/6 classroom and completing the FIT program at L’Universite du St. Boniface I’d like to apply to be part of your team. In both my grade 5/6 multiage classrooms I worked collaboratively with my students to create an effective classroom environment tailored to their learning and behavioural needs. This allowed me to build meaningful relationships with them. Having knowledge of the various learning styles in my classroom, I employed a variety of teaching methods to create engaging lessons and made adaptations when necessary. I also created a mentorship opportunity for a student in need. Moreover, I offered my students a variety of ways to show their learning such as: written assessment, visual representations and process interviews. Outside of the classroom, I have immersed myself in the school culture by building relationships with my coworkers. I ran the Mini Activists club to build relationships with students outside my classroom and joined committees such as the I Love to Read committee Furthermore, I was able to create a co-teaching relationship with the resource teacher during Math and ELA periods. In addition to my work inside my school I proved my dedication to my own professional development by choosing to use my time to attend Edcamps and a variety of divisional professional development opportunities to learn about outdoor education, Genius Hour, incorporating Indigenous perspectives, inclusive classroom design and engaging students in Math. I also chose to join TELA and learn more about student centered teaching. Furthermore, I arranged to visit Jessica Robinson’s class in 2016 where I observed her and Syd Korsunsky teaching the writing process. Intertwined with my passion for teaching is my passion for working with children with exceptionalities. This is best exemplified in my work outside the classroom while doing Respite with a 7-year-old boy who is non-verbal autistic, I have learned that communication, learning and understanding looks different for every person. Since this boy cannot communicate verbally when he needs something, I have had to learn his non-verbal cues such as: pointing and a variety of pitched vocal and facial expressions. I feel that my experiences with Respite would be valuable in any classroom, as my experience has taught me that children are unique in their desire and ability to learn. Despite my limited classroom experience, I believe the above information shows that I am a great asset to your team. Enclosed you will find my resume. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you to discuss future opportunities. Thank you in advance for your consideration, Marina Malvern
