Hi my name is Mandy! I have a strong educational background with a B.A. in Psychology and a M...... in Kinesiology. I also have a great deal of experience working with children of all ages. While completing my master's degree, I got an entry level ECE accreditation. I worked for over a year as a supply teacher at the Memorial University childcare center. This involved working with children ages 2 through 12. We prepared and served snacks and lunch for the kids, changed diapers, and supervised nap time. Additionally we promoted learning through play and helped the kids engage in a variety of activities, especially outdoor play. I have also worked for Movati as a playroom associate, supervising children and babies (from birth to 12 years) on a drop in basis. The playroom is available to gym members while they are using the gym. We supervised children while their parents are working out, including feeding them snacks and taking naps. There are a variety of activities for kids to participate in, and we promoted active play. My personal approach to play is that children should be active. I like to use minimal screen time and encourage both gross and fine motor movements to help children develop their physical literacy. Outdoor play is important for children to be able to explore the world around them in all seasons. A professor once told me a quote that I really enjoy - there is no such thing as bad weather, only those who don't dress for it. Play is also an essential way for children to learn. Learning through play not only helps children stay engaged with an activity but can help them enjoy learning. I have experience working with babies as young as three weeks old, and particularly enjoy working with babies and toddlers. I am comfortable changing diapers, feeding with bottles, and burping. I am experienced in supervising nap time as well as tummy time for babies. I am CPR and first aid trained (renewed in March 2017). I do not own a vehicle, and either walk or bus everywhere. But I am comfortable taking children to parks and other places via public transit or walking.
