My whole life I have been surrounded by children, so being able to care for them and nurture them to bring out their best qualities and personalities are like second nature to me. Being one of the eldest among roughly two dozen cousins, on many occasion I had been given the opportunity and responsibility to showcase my ability and capacity to watch over the children. Usually for a couple hours a day, I would be in charge of overlooking 3-4 children and assist them in daily activities such as playing with them by taking them to the local park or keeping them busy by tutoring and helping them read an do homework. In the past I have taken the responsibility of mentoring and fully caring for both children and adults with mental and/or physical disabilities which I believe has given me the capacity to develop my reliability, empathy, and awareness for others. My top priority that I value for anyone I am around is their safety and well-being, therefore I always feel it is necessary to be prepared for any situation. For this reason I have been for the past 5 years and currently am CPR and first aid certified. From volunteering in hospitals in the pediatric department to caring for and mentoring adolescence at an overnight camp as a counselor, I have worked with kid in a variety of settings that would allow me to appropriately handle various situations that might arise. In my most recent endeavors working with kids, I was a lead demonstrator of a Science 4 Kids team that was linked to a program at my university. I realize that children are very bright and need to constantly be stimulated to learn new skills and therefore I value and highly regard being able to be a leader and example for them to follow. In addition to all of that, personally I love music and theater and have been involved in both for a number of years. I have been involved in playing the piano competitively and for personal enjoyment for over 12 years and was constantly and actively involved in a theater program throughout high school. Naturally I am drawn to the presence and care of children, thus my reason to pursue the career of a pediatrician, in that I love woking with kids of all ages. I feel that I am able to effectively and empathetically communicate with children while at the same time having full control of my role as a leader, teacher, care giver, and friend.
