My name is Billy, and I am a resident of West Valley City. For as long as I can remember, I have thoroughly enjoyed being in the presence of children. I think that it is important for we as individuals, as we grow older, to hold on to our memories of youth by keeping our childhood innocence forever close to our hearts. In essence, to remember what it was like to be a child, and to call upon the feelings and actions attached to those memories at a moment's notice when engaging with little ones. I have a very vivid imagination, and enjoy very much engaging in play. It's no fun to be a spectator, not when there are so many wonderful adventures to be had! I enjoy meeting children on their level - 'going with the flow', if you will, as I have in the past found that the attention spans of children do tend to shift quite frequently. Learning how to work with this energy and not against it; and to have the ability to subtly redirect it when appropriate (homework, chores, bedtime); is of great importance, and it is a tool that I keep close at hand during all such situations in which I care for children. More than anything else, I find that I gain great personal joy and pride by acting as a mentor for children, thereby gaining their trust. I do so enjoy the process of watching young ones grow and develop the types of physical, emotional, and intellectual skills that will be of great importance in their journey into adulthood. I am happy to work with you and your family to gain an understanding as to what types of activities your child(ren) enjoy, and will work hard to have a plan in place (with a bag of fun supplies at the ready!) in terms of activities and outings, as well as anything that I might need to assist with homework and chores. Having said this, I do fully understand the concept of 'living in the moment', and can adjust on the fly when needed. As a note, I am an excellent chef and baker, and enjoy very much teaching children about the joys of cooking. I am also an avid outdoorsman, and relish opportunities to expose children to the wonders of the natural world. Along with my years of experience working with, mentoring, and sitting children, I also have eight years of professional experience working in a variety of different capacities with special needs young adults/adults - as a direct care staff, overnight staff, activities coordinator, and organizational director. I have a great deal of experience in caring for young adults with a broad spectrum of developmental disabilities, and usually employ a few very simple rules in my approach to care: be kind, and have patience. I have found that, almost without fail, employing these simple life rules towards a plan of care can go a very long way towards creating a healthy, happy, and a stable environment.
