I am an in home registered provider for 8 years and going to provide preschool to my clients and l have openings for preschool and child care. I have an exceptional indoors and outdoor child care setting. I received my CDA, which is Child Development Associate Degree in October 2013. I Child Net Certified, which is associated with Iowa Resource an Referral. I am also part of program called, Get Ready, Set, Go through the 4'Cs of Iowa City. One of the reasons why I got my CDA was to better serve my clients getting their children ready for kindergarten. I am providing the social and emotional development to provide positive guidance. One of my goals is to provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the development levels and learning styles of the children. Another goal is to establish and maintain a safe, healthy, no processed foods, learning environment. Our home is clean, with an abundance of natural lighting. DHS(department of human services) inspects our home to make sure we follow the guidelines for the safety of the children. In the process of achieving my goals, I have an (un)curriculum that is hands-on, child led, play-based learning supported by preparation, encouragement, and facilitation of an adult. An (un)curriculum is supported by brain development research, it also nurtures the individual child, sees everything as a learning opportunity, is based on children's needs, likes and interest. My job as a caregiver is to see learning moments and make the most of them, building on the child's prior knowledge and life experience. Luckily, everything offers a chance to engage the world, make a connection, and gain understanding: a cardboard box, a disagreement with peers, a broken spider web near the front door. We make birthday cakes from scratch, apple butter and our play dough. We have square foot gardens with multiple fruits and vegetables. It was planted and cared for by the children. In our setting we provide many opportunities for the children to prepare for kindergarten, while providing a healthy, safe and loving atmosphere.
