My name is Tabitha and I've been working with children since I was a child myself. Growing up, my brother was diagnosed with autism, so from an early age I learned what it was like to put someone else's needs first and maintain care for an individual even when they can't communicate clearly. This loving, intensive family relationship inspired me to pursue later careers in care organizations for those with developmental disabilities. My interest in care jobs started early. When I was 14, I took up a sitting job for my neighbor helping with her children ranging in age from 2, 3, 5, and 11. Around the same time, my first nephew was welcomed into the world as my sister moved back in with my parents and I. I took great joy and pride in helping her care for him from infancy to the present. In following years, I would welcome another nephew and a niece. Rest assured, I'm well-trained in diaper duties, nap times, bearing with tantrums, feeding, and attentiveness. My interaction with children is no less professional and respectful than my interaction with adults. I fully believe children should be treated as intelligent, important persons whose voices should be heard. Furthermore, I engage with children in a broad vocabulary sense with intentions to expand their learning and encourage them to speak, reason, and discuss. Aside from encouraging intelligent communication, I encourage creativity. The way to a child's heart is play. Whether it's reading books or playing with dolls/action figures, I believe it's important to be active in children's play. I've taken two child development courses in high school and participated in a program to help out throughout the week at the Fordland preschool. After high school, I worked in two different care facilities for those with developmental disabilities. I've worked with a broad range of clients and have an immense understanding and sensitivity for all situations. I take home/childcare extremely seriously. It's not simply a job with a paycheck. As an inhome caregiver or baby sitter, I pride myself in my work ethic. When entering someone else's home, I take great care to ask questions and become fully knowledgeable of the situation to provide comfort and trust to my clients and myself. Put simply, I love caring for others. It's what I feel I was born to do. My mother always says I'll make an amazing mother one day, but until that day, it brings me great joy to help others with their childcare needs.
