Description Fingerprints Nature Day Camp is an entirely outdoor camp located on private undeveloped native forest land, east of Prince George, and only 7 minutes from downtown! Children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature with supervised unstructured free time resulting in an intimate, deep and personal connection to the natural world. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD WEATHER, JUST BAD CLOTHES! We believe that nature is a classroom and children are quite capable of learning on their own through their observations and hands on discovery, rain or shine! Our Inspiration Forest Kindergarten Model: Our program is inspired by the philosophy of the Forest Kindergarten Model. Children play and learn in natural places through imaginative and exploratory play, and through questioning, experimenting, and following their interests. "The teacher’s style, is that the teacher not direct the children’s activities" or command their attentions. Their responsibility is to "push children’s limits in order to increase their own intrinsic feelings of competence" while ensuring the children’s safety and wellbeing. It is also a role of the teachers to encourage them to engage with each other during their time completely outdoors. “Designed to positively connect young children with nature through immersion programs that stimulate their innate curiosity about the natural world.” (Kenny, 2012). "Benefits for children who spend extended periods of time outdoors in unstructured play include: - Stronger immune systems - Higher grades - Longer attention spans - Superior problem solving and critical thinking skills - Increased physical strength - Better Mental Health" What to expect for a typical day at Camp Fingerprints: Our days will consist of supervised unstructured free time, "where each days plans flow organically from what nature presents us with each day." The teachers will tap into the children’s senses of wonder, and promote individual empowerment, group bonding and respect, including all living beings eg. Plants, insects etc. Activities include: learning about native plants & animals, nature games and crafts, music, storytelling, exploring trails, snacks and much more! What is on site? - Outhouse - Tree Fort -Walking Trails - 4 Play trails (Butterfly Cove, Bear Den, Shady Thicket, Green Arch Trail) - Hand washing station - Water Jugs - Shelter over a picnic bench - Storage shed (for materials, documents, first aid kits, fire extinguisher, children’s cubbies, snacks, natural disaster kit, garbage bin) - Each staff will hold a cell phone at all times.
