Hi, my name is Cynthia; I live in Norfolk, Virginia. I have been married for over 36 years to Kenneth McPherson who retired from the Navy in 2000. I was a stay-at-home mom up until my youngest when to school. During that time I did daycare for friends and neighbors. I have worked through the Navy in-home daycare program. I have had 20 children come through my home on a regular basis over 30 years. Some of the children were overnight due to some of my friends wanting to be at home in the day. I am the mother of three premature daughters and have experience with babies born before their due date and where special needs babies. I stayed home not because of duty but because I believe my children were like sponges. And everything they saw or experienced might become their personality whether good or bad. So I taught my children their colors, number, counting, nursery rhymes, phonic and we had story time. I couldn't find all those requirements in one daycare a provider so I became that provider. My children were ready for school when the time came for them to go. In the last five year I have been Daycare Provider for my Granddaughter Kianah. And the same things I taught her mother I also taught her. And she was more than ready for Pre-k 4 this year. When she was test for where she needed to be next April she had already exceeded those requirement. I believe that parents and the provider relationship is important. When that parents leave their kids they want to feel the security that their children are in safe hands. I believe that providing care for a child is only hard work when it's not thought as a career. When I see children that I have helped raised I see them as my walking resume. JOB WELL DONE! I am faithful and a dedicated Christian. I believe that it takes village to raise a child. The parents and I are that village that help nutrient a child to be successful in whatever they do. I believe that takes more than one person influence in a child life.
