I am a 45 year old woman with a 27 year old son who lives in California. I work part time at The Bentonville Preparatory Preschool Monday-Friday from 12pm to 3pm.I have worked there for nine months with ages one to four and I love it. I have had experience in many things but the Preschool is my favorite. For instance, I worked on the children's unit at Vantage Point with children from ages five to twelve who had behavior problems. Vantage Point definitely had its challenges. Most of the children were sent there because their parents couldn't handle them and some were taken from their home because their parents were abusive and many had violent behavior and would act out on their peers and teachers. It broke my heart to see children that didn't have a family to love them. I have also worked with children who have Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and who are in wheelchairs. I know how to cook, clean, dress, help with homework and I am organized. I have also worked with teenagers and preteens who had behavioral problems, adults with mental illness and the elderly. At my current job we have twelve children in the classroom with three teachers who all help each other as a team. We change diapers and take the potty trained children to the bathroom, was their hands, make sure they are sitting still at the table while are eating lunch and snack, read them stories, do activities and put them to sleep for naptime. Most of the children fall asleep fairly fast while others don't want to sleep at all. When a child doesn't listen or want to go to sleep we talk to them in a calm but firm voice and if talking doesn't work we take away privileges. We never yell at or belittle a child. The preschool is a very positive environment to work in compared to what I have done in the past and has been a good change for me.
