Sitter in Fort Collins, Colorado

I'm an
Individual
I am a second year college student at CSU and I grew up in Colorado. I am looking to be a part-time nanny/babysitter for the days I do not have class (Mondays/Wednesdays). I started caring for children when I was 13 years old with babysitting jobs for neighbors and friends. I was a part-time nanny junior year of high school for three young boys ages 7-10. I had a job over this past summer working as a camp therapist for teenagers and adults (ages 8-20) who have autism. I have had other experience with special needs individuals including volunteering in high school on weekends to teach young kids who have disabilities how to play soccer and basketball. I am open to caring for individuals who have special needs as well as individuals who do not. I am studying business at CSU and also help run the Special Olympics club on campus. I am also CPR certified.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mallory Gustin over the past summer, and she was a delight to have. We both worked together at Garden Inc, a summer camp for children and young adults with autism. I was her co-worker and mentor but we almost immediately became great friends. Every day during the summer we would take about 20 kids around the Littleton and Denver area on fun excursions and educational trips. Her very presence made every event light and happy with her lively and caring nature. But the most exceptional aspect of Mallory was the way she interacted with the kids and how attentive and loving she was to all of them. She would normally be in a group with four kids, and responsible for two of them. I was personally struck by how naturally she interacted and cared for these campers. She grew to know all about each camper, their likes, dislikes, what they wanted to do that day and what they wanted to work for. In addition, the counselors are responsible for keeping track of what the camper wants to “work for” each day, like time with the iPads, to petting the owner’s dog Ted. The counselors must note these goals and the camper has to work hard to get their goal at the end of the day. Mallory quickly learned our methods of Applied Behavioral Analysis to keep the campers on track and helped them earn their goals in an incredibly sweet and caring fashion. One task during summer camp that helped Mallory grow exponentially from was her duty to watch over multiple campers on a regular basis. In a big public setting, it could be challenging to ensure that all camper’s needs are met and that every camper stays on task with the entire group. She is a natural caretaker, and one in which I have come to admire for how hard she works and how loving she is in her heart. It did not matter the age or the intensity of attention a camper needed, her critical thinking and attention to detail mixed with unprecedented caring makes her fit to care for others. Having Mallory at the Garden was an absolute gift, and she made summer camp much more enjoyable for her campers. I highly recommend her for working in personal care and would be a perfect fit for any job that would include helping others. If you have any other questions, please be sure to let me know.
