JOB DESCRIPTION NANNY/CHILD CARE POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION This is a live-out, part-time position. The nanny/babysitter will be responsible for the social, emotional, and intellectual development of child/ren. The primary role will be to care for the six year old male child and of a one-year old boy. Sitter must show initiative and be able to organize his/her day to accomplish all required tasks, all while not neglecting child/ren. * With children, things do not always go according to plan. Applicant must adaptable and flexible enough to change routine to accommodate a sick child, for example, or lost sneakers when you are on a deadline, without becoming upset. The nanny/sitter should have some previous verifiable child care experience or equivalent training/education. The nanny works under minimal supervision of the family (adult members) and must be a self-starter, show sound judgment, be committed to the well-being of children, and be able to take initiative. He/She should possess the ability to respond to a crisis situation, communicate effectively with parents, and have some basic first aid skills. The nanny/sitter may entertain or play with the children, feed them a healthy snack or a prepared meal, clean the children up and put them to bed or down for a nap. They will be responsible for general tidiness in relation to the child/ren. (ensuring toys are picked up at the end of the day- in common areas, outside, and bedroom), supervising bedroom cleanup each day, kitchen clean up in relation to any meals/snacks that were prepared during the day. Scheduling and coordinating children’s activities at home. Off-premise activities must be planned and approved by adult family members in advance. Any costs incurred for these events will be taken care of by the family. OTHER EXPECTATIONS Responsible for making and cleaning up any meals and snacks. Driving Duties (pick up and drop off from play dates, day camps, extra curricular activities, etc.) Light errand running (during times when not responsible for child) Swimming supervision * If you do decide to use the pool, the nanny MUST go in the water and supervise the children at all times. Our expectation is that no television be watched during the day unless prior arrangements have been made. Outdoor activities are expected for at least one hour per day (unless inclement weather prohibits activity) Secondary Functions: May assist with light housekeeping, run errands, light meal preparation, and any domestic chore that assists the parents. HOURS Negotiable: to include Wednesday evenings and an occasional weekend night. PETTY CASH We provide a “petty cash mug” in our kitchen for incidental expenses that you may have with the children throughout the day. Just put a receipt in the mug equaling the cash that you took from it and we will replenish as necessary. SMOKING/SUBSTANCE USE No smoking or drug use at anytime either at home or anyplace – self-explanatory. TRAVELING WITH THE FAMILY On occasion, we travel during the week or weekend. These days would be arranged in advance and based upon mutual agreement. Of course, all reasonable costs would be covered. HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS All holidays will be honored. Occasional weekend hours may be requested of the nanny. However this will be done in advance by the family and be mutually agreed upon. OCCASIONAL WEEKNIGHT HOURS Wednesday evenings until 7:00PM. This will require dinner preparation for child/ren as well as preparation for bed (teeth brushing, hands and face washing, toilet and pajamas) REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Driver’s license and a safe driving record. First Aid and CPR certification (or in the process of obtaining) REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High school graduate or equivalent Proven child care experience with references First Aid and CPR certification Current flu shot and other vaccinations Driving license and safe driving record Must be able to swim Must have a safe mode of transportation appropriate for driving children SALARY Dependent upon experience and credentials KEY COMPETENCIES Adaptability Flexibility Ability to multitask Emotional maturity Good communication skills Good judgment skills Planning and organizing skills Stress tolerance High energy level Creativity ** Position may continue year round, with limited hours.
