Lead Nursery Caregiver (infants-preschool) (Bethany Presbyterian 2607 S. Ray Spokane) Position begins August 4, 2013. Please send resume, questions, and letter of interest to [email protected]. Bethany Presbyterian Church is an inclusive church and is part of the Presbyterian Church of the USA. Church membership is not a required qualification. Education and experience working with young children are preferred qualifications. This position will care for children when parents/caregivers are attending the church service. Per PCUSA guidelines, incumbent must be cleared in a nationwide criminal background check to work with young children and other vulnerable persons. POSITION DESCRIPTION Nursery Lead -- Paid Position Purpose: To provide oversight and leadership in the operation of Bethany's ministry to families and their young children. The Nursery Lead will guarantee the safety, health, and welfare of the nursery under the direction of the Christian Education Coordinator/Elder. Primary duties: Grow personally-- • By praying for and believing in God's guidance in fulfilling this critical work. Understand your task -- • By attending orientation and professional development sessions as requested; • By reading and being familiar with nursery policies and procedures; • By implementing fully the policies and procedures; • By learning names of individual infants and toddlers and their parents; • By knowing about developmental characteristics of infants and toddlers; • By showing love and caring for all children; • By understanding your position expectations and providing responsible leadership to the nursery team, for example, nursery teacher and volunteers assisting in the nursery; and • By communicating to your supervisor any needs for supplies and equipment to maintain and clean, safe, and healthy environment. Care for babies and toddlers -- • By paying friendly attention to each baby and toddler; • By talking in pleasant tones, using positive language; • By meeting the needs of babies and toddlers for comfort and care and having their physical needs met, such as checking for diaper changing hourly, following instructions on the "care cards" especially regarding allergies, feeding, comforting when baby is crying, helping with toileting as needed; etc.; • By bringing babies and toddlers into any appropriate activities and play for them to imitate and learn through imitation; • By encouraging and praising children's specific efforts; and • By carefully supervising the babies and toddlers. Assure parents-- • By welcoming parents and making sure registration forms, care cards, and other key information, including sign-in and sign-out of children are complete; • By sharing observations of their child's behaviors and/or stories about how the time in the nursery was spent, for example, tell parents about babies' or toddlers' happy nursery times; and • By following established policies and procedures. Be dependable-- • By arriving at directed time, usually 15-30 minutes before opening nursery to guarantee that the nursery environment and activities are ready; • By being a good, cooperative partner in work with others working in the nursery; • By communicating with the Christian Education Coordinator/Elder (your supervisor); and • By requesting time off at least 14 days in advance, unless an emergency; and • By utilizing the procedure established for notifying your supervisor. Manage the environment, including facilities and supplies and materials-- • By cleaning the room at the end of the session and • By reporting to your supervisor any information regarding supplies and other needs.
