SERVICES: As both caregiver and teacher, I develop positive, encouraging and loving relationship with the child/children I care for. As a caregiver, I place as priority the wellbeing, health, safety, growth and joy of the children in my responsibility. As a teacher (and whether I care for one child or twenty), I invest on them with lesson planning, creative teaching, hands-on-activities, and field trips. I incorporate learning in everything we do, using everything around me as a tool. My lessons include Spanish, French, Guitar, the Bible, Craft, and classroom subjects (reading, writing, math, science, etc.). Center for Urban Teaching (CfUT): Center for Urban Teaching (for which I intern) holds the mission and reputation of identifying, preparing and supporting high-performing teachers. I started interning with them last year and was promoted to the Third Tier. Its training touches (but not limited to) classroom management and joy factors, building relationship with students and parents, development stages, different kinds of learning, classroom culture and procedures, creativity and professionalism. I apply what learn with CfUT to my ministry with the children and youth at my home church. 2. Calvin Christian School I teach French, Spanish, Crafts, Music and the Bible during after school program. I use songs, games, hands and motor movements to teach the alphabet, numbers, shapes and words (in English, French and Spanish). One example I use is the parachute game: My aide and I hold the parachute high up over blocks of numbers, colors, shapes or words; I tell my kids, ‘Before the parachute fall down, one of you will run under the parachute, snatch this number and emerge out on the other side.’ I tell them the number I want, yell ‘Ready, Set, Go,’ and watch them snatch the number before the parachute falls back down. I also do communications projects with the students: Each of my K-1st student draws and writes his/her own book (8-page squared white paper sewn and glued together). Using Indesign CS6, I create the book covers, which includes a profile picture and brief biography of the child author and the story synopsis. The bigger kids (5th to 8th grade) do a reporting project: they come up with series of serious questions, choose one, interview an adult whose opinion they respect, record the interview, write an article on the interview and edit the video interview-style. I use obstacle games to help my students think fast, remember fast and apply in real-life setting a lesson they learned. For example: I place different students at different spots in the room. The student to be tested has 10 seconds to get the message to the other side of the room, a message of life and death. Situated on his path are different obstacles. If our activity is spelling, each obstacle will state a word and the student has to spell those words correctly to pass the obstacle. Behind the student, a competitor student from the other team tries to catch him, if he slows down in any way or hesitates before spelling a word, he risks of being caught. 3. West Pullman Church I am the youth director and media coordinator at my church. I also lead the children and youth outreach. We use songs, drama, novels, and art to tell the Gospel to our audiences, communicating in the interest and creative language of the people we speak too. 4. Loving Little People For two years, I worked as a full-time teacher and provider’s assistant in Loving Little People Daycare. I taught the little kids their ABCs, numbers, shapes, animals, etc. and tutored the big kids in their homework. SKILLS: I employ creativity in both lesson planning and teaching. The tools I use include 1. Language (French, Spanish, Mandarin and Korean) 2. Drama (role-playing, dramatic presentations, skits) 3.
