Hi my name is Alisa and I'm 19 years old. Many of you may think that is a little young to be caring for your children but I have a 6 month old baby of my own as well as many years of baby sitting experience with a variety of different age groups. To start out with, I have a younger sibling that is three years younger than I am that I have been baby sitting without supervison since I was 10 and still do at times even though she is 16 years old now. Back when I was 12, I baby sat two children at one time that were 3 and 5 years old. I fed them, played with them, and even brought them to the bathroom. The five year old was begging her mom for me to baby sit her more often, it was really cute! When I was 14, I baby sat a 6-9 month old baby on my own. I changed his diapers, fed him, put him down for a nap, and even played with him when he was wide awake. At the age of 18, I attended an Early Childhood Developement class through my high school. I learned many things from that class and even some I already knew but it was a great review for me. In that class, we did many activities with special needs children. For example, we walked them to a pumpkin patch around Halloween and helped them pick out a pumpkin which we carried back to the school to help them carve to take home to their families. We also did cut out and coloring activities with them for other holidays. I had a lot of fun with them because they were a joy to be around. I was actually best friends with a special needs girl back in elementary school and I had no idea she was a special needs child until I was in middle school where she came up to me to say hi and give me a high five like we always did back then. Even though I didn't see her for almost 4 years, she still remembered me and I loved that! People in high school would give me weird looks when she would run to me and give me high fives but I wouldn't care because it didn't bother me one bit! She was so happy to see me and that would just make my day! Anyways, I did volunteer work for that class as well. We had a parent's night out for all the teachers who had children, planned a movie night for them which included fun activities and snacks. The children's ages ranged from 2 to 8 years old so we jump roped, made sock puppets, and colored. For snack time, I helped prepare food and drinks for them. I also helped set blankets and pillows down for them to lay on while watching a movie of which they voted on watching. At the end of the night, I gathered all the activites they did together to give to their parents as well as their sleeping supplies since all but two napped during the movies and made sure the the children got back to their parents safely.
