Sitter in Lawrence, Kansas

I'm an
Individual
Foreword: I have a reliable, family-safety approved vehicle for transportation. I have never had any traffic violations and have never been in an accident. Also, I am willing to work with multiple children and/or teens at a time. I have a list of references as well as my resume that can be provided on request :) This description about me is explaining how I am competent extraordinarily qualified to: teach, nanny, babysit, tutor, mentor, be a parent aid (pick up and drop off children, house cleaning, homework help, continuing learning in a fun way at home). I have worked with literally every age group, from infants to 18 year olds, and I understand that each individual learns differently and has different behaviors and responses. This is why I consistently use a strengths-based approach: many kids do not realize how many positive support systems and activities they have interacting in their daily lives, and it is proven time and time again in research to help children learn and grow with a positive correlation to their success levels. I have also worked with children/teens with autism, Down's Syndrome, and more than a handful of other developmental or learning disabilities or impairments. No child is too much of a challenge for me. I am a senior Social Welfare student at KU and the skills I have learned in the classroom are applicable to every child I work with. I am a Lead Teacher at a childcare facility (preferably anonymous until resignation) in Lawrence for the after school program for school agers. I am excellent at building strong curriculums and sticking to them, engaging the children, and making learning fun. I use a comprehensive, patience-based approach in helping the children remember what they have learned so that it will stick. For example, I try to incorporate a lot of memory-based games to help develop early critical thinking skills. Because of my line of work, I am able to quickly realize issues children are having in certain areas of their learning development. When these occasions arise, I find creative ways to learn those skills without them feeling like they are doing boring school work. I am also interning at a residential facility in Kansas City for troubled youth with behaviors that interfered in their home life, such as aggression, antisocial behavior, developmental disabilities, conduct disorders, extreme mood disorders and more. At this internship, my main duties are tutoring, mentoring, counseling, facilitating play therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, as well as group therapy sessions. I also do case management for foster children and participate in family court hearings to help represent the needs that must be met for the minor in each case. This internship is 16 hours a week, and I complete the hours when my schedule permits, which means I am flexible to your schedule. I am a state certified Lead Teacher, and I am also American Heart Association certified for CPR and Pediatric First Aid. I have taken much training, including: ---Curriculum training provided by the state of Kansas ---The Willow Domestic Violence Shelter: Multiple courses on relational abuse, substance abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and reintegrating a family after crises ---Cornerstones of Care (KCMO): Cultural Competency, Fostering Strategies for Change: Children, Families, and Their Community ---Trauma-Informed Care ---Crisis Intervention ---Kansas Child Abuse and Neglect Training ---Training received in my first two years of college as an Elementary Education major, before I switched to Social Welfare ---Building Better Communities Training
