I have been caring for children for over the last 10 years. The birth of my own child has prompted me to shift from nanny to providing in-home care for children five and under. I will start in August and be available to watch children from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but I am willing to be flexible if necessary. You can feel confident that your child will be lovingly cared for in my home. Our day will have a routine which includes songs and stories, reading, fine motor skill play (including arts and crafts), and gross motor skill play. Television will be excluded from our day's activities. Each day I will send home a note describing your child's day. In the last year, I worked for a Montessori, so my child care will embody some of the spirit of what they do in the classroom. I will help the children cultivate independence while maintaining respect and courtesy for others. An example of independence for a child of 15 months would be the child sitting at the table eating with minimal assistance and using his or her own glass. An example of independence for a 5-year-old might be assisting in the snack preparation and pouring water for the younger children. The more tasks we ask them to perform on their own the more empowered children are to do so. The children possess the confidence to try new things because they know that they will be support and assisted when necessary.
