Sitter in New York, New York

Our family is moving to California and it is with great sadness that we leave behind our fantastic babysitter. Our sitter has been with us for five years, since our older son was four months old. She came highly recommended from another mom we found on Craigslist and though she sounded too good to be true, she has been amazing in every way. She is hoping to find full time work with a family who has a baby beginning approximately mid-July. Let me tell you why you want our sitter: She has raised four children of her own and has been babysitting professionally for over twenty years. In that time, she has worked with only four families. The families before us only parted with her when they no longer needed full time help. She will work hand in hand with you to determine when your baby is ready for the next developmentally appropriate toy, a new food, a new play experience; she’s happy to follow your lead or, if you are a first time mom, guide you through your baby’s first stuffy nose, teething, tummy time, etc. (I had no idea how valuable this was going to be when we hired her!) She will observe your child carefully and tailor her approach based upon your child’s personality and needs. As your child grows, she will teach him or her to be kind to others, to say please and thank you, to treat everyone with respect; she will introduce songs, letters, numbers, animal names and noises, and other vocabulary in a timely and developmentally appropriate fashion. She is terrific about befriending other sitters in the neighborhood and arranging playdates – but only with those who she feels has the same values and expectations for children’s behavior that you and she share.
