My wife and I are seeking a qualified person to provide child care for our two, wonderful grandchildren, 8 and 10. We need somebody to help our son by giving his kids the care and attention they need on a regular schedule when he has to work. The typical hours would be after school from 3:15 to 6:15 on Tuesday-Friday and from 1:00 to 6:15 on Mondays (i.e., early release day). This works out to 15-18 hours per week, on a routine basis. Our grandchildren and their father live in the Hilldale area and both children attend Van Hise Elementary School. We are looking for somebody who loves working with bright, energetic, talkative, questioning and intellectually independent kids with serious minds of their own. Did we mention energetic? The person we hire will need a car, a totally safe driving record and a willingness to take the kids around town for library visits and to events that may come up. Child care experience and training in child development, education, and/or psychology are desirable but not essential. We offer to pay $12-$15/hr, depending on qualifications. We will pay mandated benefits and reimburse personal vehicle use at $0.50/mile. Finally, we are willing to negotiate these terms for somebody who seems to be just the right fit for our grandchildren's needs. We are ready to start immediately and expect this position to continue to the end of the school year in June. There is an additional opportunity to provide approximately 20 hours of child care every third weekend, if someone is free of other obligations and wishes to do so. We, also, expect to have further opportunities to work in summer and next school year but need to wait to see what the actual schedules will be.
