It’s Rally Schedule at Lowell High School, the one day a year that each class dresses in a designated color competes amongst each other, and I’m on the bleachers chanting “Seniors! Seniors!” as I watch my classmates win a tug-o-war against the 11th graders. I’m completely decked out in red attire, the color of the Class of 2014. I’ve even painted my face and arms and pinned on a red wig to cover my brown hair. I’ve participated in games and have started “the wave” across the school bleachers. Needless to say, I’m not afraid to show my spirit and enthusiasm, traits that will carry on as a babysitter. While I am teaching, my supervisors have commented that I am very outgoing with my students, but strict enough to earn their respect. I am very comfortable in big groups with a lot of energy. I channel energy into games, fun and learning. I am very good at impromptu teaching, filling time with riddles or physical activities. Knowing this, I want my students, and the kids I babysit, to remember me as a role model for my fearlessness and confidence. As seen with my school spirit, I am enthusiastic, expressive, and engaging. I can make kids feel more comfortable expressing themselves in goofy and creative ways. I want to provide a safe space for kids to explore their own unique personalities in an accepting and inclusive community.
