I previously ran a daycare from my home at two different times in my life. While pregnant with my first child I started caring for 2 other infants full time. I continued after my son was born until all were old enough to go into preschool. Again I established a daycare when my second son was born 5 years later and my brother was recovering from a head injury. I cared for numerous children ages infant to school age on a drop in/part-time basis. I also cared for my brother who didn't require constant monitoring but needed a presence and moderate care. The majority of my available hours were during standard business hours but I also had some who stayed into the evening or overnight as needed by their parents. I established this business model because I saw a need for parents to have care available that was more flexible than most daycares were willing to provide. I raised 3 beautiful children and am an active participant in the care of my two grandson's currently aged 2 and 3. I actively participated in volunteering at my children's schools and organizations. I continue to volunteer with my grandson's activities whenever possible. Outside of my child care role. I worked in a hospital for 18 years. The first five years in the medical records department and the last 13 in the purchasing department. The last 5 years of employment at the hospital were working as the department manager of purchasing where I supervised 25 people at two campus locations. Unfortunately because of the crisis that the medical field was experiencing in 2009 my job was eliminated. I subsequently worked in the airline industry for a period of time and then moved into retail. I was able to transfer for the retailer I work for from Colorado to California earlier this year so that I could be a more active participant in my grandson's lives. Unfortunately the cost of living is significantly higher in California than it was in Colorado, however the pay is not. This is requiring me to seek additional employment to supplement my current position or to change my current full time position to one which would provide me an income that I can support myself with. I am open to discussing any possibilities however big or small.
