Hello, my name is Alexander Pearl and I have a knack for caring for kids. I enjoy working with high energy children that other people find difficult. I find that taking these kids outdoors and playing with them is the best way to channel their energy in a positive way. I also enjoy introducing children to new board games (I have a collection) for when it is time to go inside. My first experience sitting a child was as a high schooler for a program called Athletes for Kids. In this program, an athlete is paired with a child with a "disability". I was paired with a 3rd grader, a boy diagnosed with ADHD. For three years I was entrusted with taking care of him and sometimes his little sister as well. Twice a month I would spend 5 hours or so caring for him, at his house or my house. We had a lot of fun going out swimming, spending time at the park, and just talking. We celebrated his successes and I gave him advice for his problems. He was always very excited to have me visit him, and it was wonderful watching his confidence grow over the years. I also have experience managing many children at once: I was as a track coach for elementary and middle school-aged children. I did this for five years and there learned how to properly motivate and encourage kids to behave and do their best on the track! Working with children as a track coach always left me feeling full of energy. One winter I worked as an elf assistant for Santa Clause. This job gave me the opportunity to utilize my acting skills, as I took on the persona of “Nutmeg” the elf. My primary responsibility was to entertain the children as they waited in line and to help them smile for the photographer when they had their picture taken with Santa. Making children laugh and smile came quite naturally to me as I sang them songs and told jokes. My most recent job was working as a fundraiser for Greenpeace in Seattle. This job had me reaching out to people all over the city of Seattle spreading awareness on environmental issues and raising money for our cause. This was very meaningful work and I loved meeting so many people! Greenpeace allowed my people skills to shine and I was recognized as the top door to door fundraiser in the nation on four separate occasions! While I enjoyed working at Greenpeace, the city never felt like home to me, which is why I moved here to Hawaii! The tropical weather, greenery, food, and beautiful blue ocean refresh my soul and I feel blessed to be here. As your child's caregiver, I will encourage them to grow stronger and feel more confident in themselves, while providing them the safety and structure they need.
