My name is Nicole J. Shellard. I am a 39 year old woman with two grown children. My desire to care for and assist people throughout the life span began long before I earned my degree in Occupational Therapy with a Pediatric emphasis. I am not your ordinary teenage babysitter, however a grown adult with over 10 years of practice in the field of Occupational Therapy. I graduated from Touro College, School of Health Sciences in 2002 with outstanding academic performance. Although I have had extensive experience treating individuals across the life span via Hospitals, Nursing home, Rehabs, Schools, and at a clients home, I feel i have gained more of an understanding for a child's needs regarding emotional, social, physical, as well as academical developmental via textbook, but mostly hands on, one to one experience. At this stage of life a child is very in tune and sensitive to what there role is in there environment. Youngsters, are at such a an impressionable age with the ability to thrive, and demonstrate intense curiousity about life and its components that they have the ability to learn, adapt, and demonstrate skills as a direct result of a role model, teacher or parent. There capabilities to adapt to various setting and learn how they can succeed in each one is a major life skill and milestone for a child. Each individual in a child's life has a direct impact on his/her life, and is very likely to not only influence, but shape them into the sound adults that they turn into. As a Therapist and caregiver, I realize how important it is to sharpen a child's skills and promote self esteem via independence, praise, love, attention, teaching and promoting healthy boundaries and social skills inside and outside the classroom. My loving, understanding, compassionate, and experience with working with children will prove to make me an essential part of your child's life. If i am unable to get transportation to and from your home, hopefully it wouldn't be an issue to pick me up and take me back home... I am more then willing to do sleep overs or days at a time if you are planning a vacation. My knowledge and flexibility will prove that I am worth it!
