Retired Nurse who loves children willing to provide care in my home

Sitter in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador

I'm an
Individual
HI, I am an energetic mother of 4 (3 still at home) who would like to continue my career of nurturing and care in my home. I pride myself on my organization skills, healthy food choices, fun and safe learning through play with my kids and most of all loving and fair guidance. I do not believe in using electronics to pacify a child in need of comfort or a good story. I use every opportunity and teachable moment to provide kids with the skills that foster self reliance. I know that parents struggle with homework in the evening and I have had success and experience as a tutor so I would be incorporating some short study time into the day. I have proven that positive realistic goals create a positive self image and a happy and satisfied kid. Kids crave real human connections and that can only be accomplished by getting on the same level and really connecting with them. It's well worth the effort. I may have been spotted jumping in puddles and gotten weird looks a few times but the look on my kids face and the connection I gained makes it all worthwhile. Love babies and support a gentle exploratory method of development and learning. I have advanced neonatal resuscitation certificate, CPR, First Aid are current, Maternity and Child care are my background. References will be provided. As far as discipline goes, I don't have use time out or chairs or corners or any of that. Depending on the situation, I ask the child to remove him/herself and gently encourage them to gain control over their emotions with calm words and gestures. Most of the time, they need to vent frustration. After that, things usually go very well with a review of what happened and what needs to happen next time. The message: It's okay to have conflict and it can be resolved and we can learn from it and we are not bad people. We are humans who make mistakes and mistakes sometimes have consequences. I'm not the type who saves the child from all consequences. Like if you snatch a bike from "Jane" and she is hurt, then she may not let you borrow it again for some time, that's called a consequence. I can support you through what happened and help you understand her perspective but I'm not interfering with the consequence. That's my philosophy. I know that each child is precious and unique and am willing to incorporate their preferences and tastes into our routine. I hope to chat soon!
