I have worked with Lauryn since she was in 6th grade as a violin student in my orchestra and have continued to work with her throughout high school in my Philharmonic Orchestra. Lauryn is a sweet young lady with a wonderful personality that will be an excellent fit for whichever college she chooses to attend. Ms. Hylton is an excellent student that always strives to meet expectations, works well with other students, can take charge when necessary, and has excellent work ethic. Time and time again, she has distinguished herself as a mature, capable student that can adapt to expectations and exceed them. Ms. Hylton has consistently shown her diligent work ethic and positive approach towards education throughout my years with her. Around her sophomore year at AHS, Lauryn realized she was able to help younger, often struggling students around her within the ensemble. Ms. Hylton would often find time to work with these students before or after class, despite the fact that Lauryn was not a section leader. Ms. Hylton simply knew it was that these students needed help and she was able to offer it. Throughout the years, this compassion and desire to contribute have made her an invaluable member of the ensemble as well as a model of senior leadership and responsibility. This year, Lauryn has put these unique skills to excellent use. Ms. Hylton has begun to come over to my middle school classes and work with 6th grade student-musicians that are struggling. It’s inspiring to see Lauryn’s hard work result in a young student successfully learning a concept or overcoming an obstacle. This is because—at her core—Lauryn simply cares deeply about all those around her. Behind that level of fundamental compassion, is a drive for success and for others to share that success. Lauryn is one of the most independently motivated students I’ve ever encountered. Combined with her high level of meta-cognition and self-awareness, Ms. Hylton sets herself apart as an exceptional and distinctive young lady.
