Sitter in Maple Grove, Minnesota

The following information consists of who I am as a student and person, followed by why I believe I would be an excellent sitter or nanny throughout summer 2017 and possibly beyond. Thanks for reading :) My name is Kasey Carpenter and I am a 21-year-old college student approaching my final semester at The University of Minnesota: Twin Cities, where I am pursuing a double major in Communication Studies and The Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Deviance with a major GPA of 4.0 and a cumulative GPA of 3.98. This spring, I became one of six juniors university-wide to be elected and inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society for Academic Excellence, Demonstrated Tolerance of Others' Views, Proficiency in a Second Language (French), and further academic achievements. After graduating with my BA this December, I plan to pursue my MA and Ph.D. in Human Communication, with a focus on Family and Relationship Interpersonal Communication. I love working with and helping other people and hope to become a professional researcher and a professor someday. At The University of Minnesota, I work as a Teaching Assistant in both the UMN Department of Sociology and (beginning this fall) the UMN Department of Communication Studies. This spring, my freshman-senior-aged students nominated me for Best Teacher's Assistant of 2017, citing my enthusiasm, kindness, genuine care, and effectiveness in helping them understand all things sociology and perseverance. I also work as a Research Project Manager for a communicative study entitled "Supporting Friends," where my study's director and I seek to discover how close, platonic friends provide and receive different levels of emotional support over different communicative mediums. My further work experience consists of customer service retail and restaurant jobs, where I have been personally complimented for my kindness and care toward customers, camp counseling, where I established lifelong connections with fellow counselors aged 16 and our adorable campers, aged 4-8, and babysitting/nannying, where I cared for a third-grader and fifth-grader on weeknights in Maple Grove and nannied/provided transportation to a 12 and then 13-year-old for two summers in Maple Grove, respectively. My core values are kindness to all kinds of people, care for others, empathy and ethics (I have been a vegetarian since I was eight years old, for one example), and willingness to learn. I wish to work as a sitter or nanny because I love helping others (parents/siblings), establishing connections with young people and serving as a positive role-model, and developing further childcare skills myself, as I have entered my 20s and am beginning to interact with friends and family's children more often. I have loved working as a teacher's assistant and nanny for older children; I equally loved working with late elementary-aged children as a sitter several years ago; I also wholeheartedly enjoyed working as a camp counselor for young kindergarten-second-grade-aged children. Working with children more would not only be rewarding but fitting for how much I enjoy ensuring others live as happy of a life as they wish, primarily through good and admirable relationships with others. I may not be perfect, but I try my best to be the best person, student, worker, and perhaps sitter/nanny that I can be! Most importantly, I am always willing to learn.
