Sitter in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I am going into my fourth year at Dalhousie University. I am studying psychology with a minor in law. I believe there is no greater experience than watching a child’s life shape and grow before your eyes. I had the privilege of watching two children that are very dear to my heart grow and experience life, develop their personalities, and start to discover the world around them from the age of two on. That has been one of the most satisfying experiences I have had to date. Being able to be a part of a child’s growing experience by teaching them new things, comforting them, laughing with them, playing games with them, and being someone they can see as a role model is something that I think everyone should be able to experience. I believe that children can teach you just as much, if not more about the world than you can teach them in the sense that they truly make you appreciate the little things. Though I do not have any formal education in working with children, I have plenty of experience with babysitting children and spending time building relationships with them. I can honestly say that during my time of taking care of children, not once did it seem like work. Rather, something I look forward to as there are so many little things about spending time with children that can make you smile. Working as a proctor at Dalhousie University has guided me in further developing values that have always been close to my heart such as inclusivity, treating everyone as equal and making sure people have a safe place to go to if they have problems. I believe that these values would apply to this job as well because children come in all different varieties, and each one is unique in their own way. I think something that might be important when working with children is this understanding that each one is unique and get to know each and every one of their strengths and weaknesses so you can continue to help them grow. I would want children to feel like they could always come talk to me with a problem if needed.
