VOLUNTEER POSITION PAATS (Parent Advocates for Autism Treatment in Saskatchewan) is looking for individuals who love to work with children and want to help children with autism have an exceptional camp experience! We need dedicated individuals to assist us during our three day overnight Autism Family Camp in beautiful Cypress Hills Provincial Park in southwest Saskatchewan, 20 minutes south of Maple Creek. Meals and shared accommodations are provided. Transportation there can also be arranged. TASK DESCRIPTION: 1) Camp registration begins at 3 PM but we need workers to arrive at 1 PM on August 26th to familiarize themselves with the camp and receive an overview of job expectations. 2)Read and sign an information package prior to camp. 3)Support children between the ages of 2 - 15 with autism and without autism during camp activities. Activities include but are not limited to: watching children on the trampoline or rock climbing wall, swimming with children and helping them get in and out of the pool, provide support during crafts, hiking, geotracking, remote control cars, paddle boating or canoeing, archery, craft preparation, tuck shop supervising and more! 4)Demonstrate leadership and a welcoming attitude. 5)Perform general camp duties. 6)Assist with children when it appears parents could use an extra set of eyes or hands. 7)Ensuring children stay in their groups. Safety is our main priority and this must be considered at all times! SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Experience with autism or other special needs is preferred but individuals willing to learn will be considered. Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with minimum supervision independently and in cooperation/collaboration with staff. Excellent communication (oral & writing) skills. Excellent leadership, and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Positive attitude, enthusiastic and upbeat personality. Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
